Philip Newsome

Philip originally qualified as a dental surgeon, working initially in the UK before moving to Hong Kong in 1986, all the while photographing the world around him. In 2019 he left the profession to devote his energies to photography. His two main areas of interest are motorsport photography and the urban environment, the latter coming out of his fascination with Hong Kong's remarkable cityscape. His motorsport images have appeared in many of the world's leading automotive magazines and 2026 sees him a Canon World Sports Photographer of the Year Finalist. He is a full member of the Guild of Motoring Writers and is the founder and editor of the Journal of Automotive Photography.
A recognised authority on the Macau Grand Prix, he has authored several books on the history of the event as well as an acclaimed biography of legendary owner of Theodore Racing, Teddy Yip. He is Historical Consultant to the Macau Grand Prix Museum.
In 2024 he published Tracks in the Sand which explores the aesthetic and cultural appeal of the world famous Pendine Sands Hot Rod Races. He now lives in the UK in the Cotswolds.
